About Jen MacDonald - For the love of COLOR!
I am absolutely in love with color. In my art, clothing, home decor- you will always find lots of color and patterns. Nature and specifically flowers inspire me with their stunning beauty, intricate details and vibrant colors.
I try to recreate the amazing colors I see in a bouquet of flowers or a sprawling garden but with my own twist. Mixing paint and making a new color is one of my absolute joys of painting. It's not unusual for me to mix 3 or 4 colors to create my own perfectly strange and luscious color. It's way more fun to take several colors, play and see what happens. My process strikes the balance of thoughtful composure and intuitive placement of color.
My path to where I am now and creating art has been unusual. I do not have an art degree, just a passion for creating colorful work. I was lucky to take several art classes (photography & stained glass) as an undergraduate while obtaining my BS in Marine Biology. I have since taken several classes over the years, creating with clay, print making, oil painting. Then, after a 20 year career as a Researcher in Pediatric Oncology, I decided to follow my love of being creative. I'm now a student and finding my way with my love of acrylic paints.
I strive to take the viewer on a journey to a fanciful place that only exists in my mind. I hope they can come along, let go of their stress for a moment and feel happy.
